Teach with real tools without showing student data
Teachers and trainers: share your LMS, gradebook or internal tools on a projector or video call while student names, grades and personal details stay blurred.
Updated
Showing how a tool really works means sharing the real tool. For a teacher, that’s a learning platform full of student names and grades. For a corporate trainer, it’s an HR system, a CRM or an internal dashboard with colleagues’ details on it. Projected in a classroom or shared on a call, everything on the page is visible to everyone in the room.
BlurSite lets you keep teaching from the live system while the personal details stay hidden.
What tends to be on screen
- Gradebooks and rosters in Google Classroom, Canvas, Moodle and other learning platforms.
- Student or employee profiles: names, email addresses, photos and contact details.
- Submission lists that show who has and hasn’t handed work in.
- Email and chat previews in a browser tab you forgot to close.
Student records are often protected by law and school policy, such as FERPA in the United States. Even where no rule applies, students notice when their grades appear on a projector.
Preparing a lesson or training session
- Before class, open each page you plan to show.
- Click names, grades and profile photos to blur them, or drag an area blur over a whole roster or column.
- Turn on keep blur for each page. Blurs survive page reloads, so they stay put through a long session and come back for next week’s class.
- Use blur selected text for a single line, such as one student’s comment, that you want to discuss anonymously.
- Keep the privacy curtain (⌥⇧H) ready to cover the whole page if you need to look something up mid-lesson.
In the classroom vs. on a video call
In a room, everyone sees the projector at once, so anything visible for a second has been seen. On a video call, participants can screenshot or record the share. Either way, prepare blurs before the session rather than reacting during it.
For live lessons, a second browser profile used only for teaching helps too: no personal bookmarks, no signed-in email, and only the blurs you set up for class.
For corporate trainers
Onboarding sessions often walk new hires through internal tools with live data: HR records, CRM accounts, finance dashboards. Blurring colleague and customer details lets you train on the real system instead of a stale sandbox, and recordings of the session stay safe to share later.
Recording lessons for later
If you record lessons for students who missed class, the blurs you set up are captured in the recording too. There’s no editing step before you upload. See blur before you record for a recording checklist.
Frequently asked questions
- Does BlurSite work with Google Classroom, Canvas and Moodle?
- Yes. BlurSite works on any webpage in Chrome and other Chromium browsers, including learning platforms.
- Will blurs survive a page refresh during class?
- Yes, when keep blur is on for that page. Your blurs come back after a reload and the next time you open the page.
- Does it work on a projector or in a video call?
- Yes. The blur is part of the page, so it shows on a projector, a second monitor and in any screen-sharing tool.
